๐งฐ Required Tools & Equipment
- โ Driver (10.5ยฐ or preferred loft)
- โ Alignment sticks (pair)
- โ Golf tee (3.25 inch)
- โ Impact spray or foot powder spray
- โ Smartphone tripod (for camera recording)
๐ฆ Materials & Supplies
- โ Standard golf balls (bucket of 30-50)
- โ Driving range mat or natural grass hitting bay
โ ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings
- โข Maintain a clear safety perimeter of at least 10 feet around your entire swing arc.
- โข Never walk past the designated hitting line to retrieve a ball while others are swinging.
- โข Warm up back, hips, and shoulders with dynamic stretches prior to full-speed swings.
๐ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Set a Strong Lead-Hand Grip
Place your lead hand (left for right-handers) onto the grip so the handle rests across the base of the fingers rather than the palm. Rotate the lead hand clockwise until you can clearly see 2.5 to 3 knuckles when looking down at address. Place your trailing hand underneath, nesting the lifeline over the lead thumb.
- โข Camera sees 2 to 3 knuckles on the lead hand from the face-on angle.
- โข The 'V' formed by the thumb and index finger of both hands points toward the trailing shoulder.
- โข Gripping the club too high in the palm of the lead hand.
- โข Allowing the trail hand to dominate over top of the shaft in a weak position.
Establish Ball Position and Spine Tilt
Tee the golf ball high so half the ball sits above the top crown of your driver. Align the ball directly inside your lead heel, widen your stance just beyond shoulder width, and tilt your spine slightly away from the target so your lead shoulder sits higher than your trail shoulder.
- โข Alignment stick at feet shows stance parallel to target line while second stick points ball position to lead heel.
- โข Face-on view shows upper body tilted roughly 6 to 10 degrees away from target.
- โข Setting the ball too far back in the middle of the stance.
- โข Level shoulders at address, which promotes a steep downward chop.
Execute a Wide, Square Takeaway
Start the backswing by rotating your chest and shoulders away from the ball in one piece. Keep the clubface angle matching your spine tilt during the first two feet of movement rather than fanning the face open with your wrists.
- โข At club shaft parallel to the ground, the toe points slightly downward matching the torso tilt.
- โข Clubhead is directly in line with or slightly outside the hands from the down-the-line camera angle.
- โข Rolling the wrists open immediately off the ball, pointing the toe straight up or behind the body.
- โข Lifting the club straight up with arms instead of turning the chest.
Slot the Club on an Inside Path
Begin the downswing by shifting weight toward your lead foot while allowing your trail elbow to drop down near your right hip pocket. This keeps the club shaft shallow and swinging from inside the target line rather than casting over the top.
- โข Down-the-line camera shows the clubhead dropping below the shoulder plane during early downswing.
- โข Trail elbow tucks close to the trail side of the torso at waist height.
- โข Spinning the shoulders open early, throwing the club out over the baseline ('over the top').
- โข Hanging back on the trail leg during the initial move downward.
Rotate and Release Through Impact
Drive through the ball allowing your trail forearm to naturally roll over your lead forearm just past impact. Strike the ball with a slightly upward blow, extending your arms fully toward the target as the clubface snaps flush.
- โข Impact spray reveals ball strike centered or slightly high on the toe quadrant of the driver face.
- โข Both arms fully extended in a 'V' pointing down the target line immediately after impact.
- โข 'Chicken-winging' the lead elbow by pulling it back and bending it through impact to hold the face open.
- โข Stalling body rotation and flipping wrists excessively.
Finish in Full Balanced Extension
Allow momentum to carry your swing into a full, high finish with your torso facing the target. Hold this position steadily for three seconds, ensuring at least 90% of your body weight is supported over your lead heel with your trail foot resting purely on its tiptoe.
- โข Player stands tall with chest and belt buckle fully pointing at the target.
- โข Trail shoe sole is completely vertical with only the toe touching the ground.
- โข Falling backwards onto the trailing foot after ball contact.
- โข Cutting the finish short due to deceleration through impact.
