📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Position and Apply Softening Drops
Drape a towel over the shoulder beneath the target ear. Tilt your head horizontally so the affected ear faces straight up toward the ceiling. Gently pull the outer ear upward and backward to straighten the ear canal, then squeeze 5 to 10 softening drops into the opening.
- • Head is tilted completely flat to the shoulder.
- • Ear canal opening is visibly filled with liquid drops without spilling down the cheek.
- • Inserting the dropper tip deep into the canal opening instead of hovering above it.
- • Tilting the head back upright immediately after squeezing drops.
Dwell and Allow Wax to Soften
Maintain the horizontal head tilt for 3 to 5 minutes to let the solution break down the cerumen. You may hear light crackling or bubbling as the carbamide peroxide dissolves the wax. Keep a paper towel ready by your cheek.
- • Person remains seated with head resting sideways for the entire duration.
- • Timer reaches at least 3 minutes.
- • Shaking the head vigorously or standing up prematurely.
Prepare Body-Temperature Water
Fill a clean cup with lukewarm water and test a drop on the inside of your wrist. It should feel neither warm nor cool, matching body temperature (98.6°F / 37°C). Submerge the rubber bulb syringe tip, squeeze fully, and release to draw the water in completely.

- • Water temperature verified on inner wrist.
- • Using tap water that is noticeably hot or cold.
- • Drawing air into the bulb by not submerging the tip deep enough.
Irrigate the Ear Canal
Hold the catch basin firmly against your neck directly beneath the earlobe. Tilt your head slightly toward the basin. Place the tip of the bulb syringe just inside the entrance of the ear canal, aiming the stream upward along the canal wall rather than directly at the center, and squeeze steadily.

Inspect Output and Drain
Check the fluid inside the catch basin for dislodged wax chunks or yellow/brown debris. If wax remains and no discomfort occurred, repeat the gentle rinse 2 to 3 times. Once finished, tilt your head over the towel and let all residual water drain completely.

- • Head tilted sideways allowing remaining droplets to drain onto the towel.
- • Excessive flushing (more than 4-5 times in one session) causing canal irritation.

Dry and Sanitize
Gently pat the outer ear (pinna) and area behind the lobe dry with a clean towel. Do not place rolled towel corners into the canal. Flush the bulb syringe several times with clean hot water, squeeze it empty, and store it tip-down to air dry.
